- You canβt drive between the hours of 11 PM and 5 AM without a parent, guardian, person in loco parentis (21 years or older) or spouse (18 years or older) as your front passenger
- You cannot have more passengers in the vehicle than the number of seat belts
- First 6 months: You cannot drive more than 1 passenger under the age of 18 who is not an immediate family member unless your parent(s) or guardian(s) is in the vehicle with you
- After 6 months: You cannot drive more than 3 passengers under the age of 18 who is not an immediate family member unless your parent(s) or guardian(s) is in the vehicle with you. The limit only increases for those who have not been involved in a crash or have been convicted of any driving violation.
Exception: You can only drive alone between 11 PM and 5 AM if you are involved in public or charitable service, a member of a volunteer fire company, or employed during those hours. Youβll need to carry a notarized affidavit or certificate of authorization from your employer, supervisor, or fire chief with your schedule. Make sure to keep this with your driver license!
Be careful! Your license may be suspended until you are 18 or for a maximum of 90 days if:
- You were in an accident and you were partially or fully responsible for it
- You commit certain moving violations
Your license will be suspended for 90 days or 120 days if these situations happen:
- You accumulate 6 or more points on your driver record
- You were convicted of driving 26 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit
