What is the concurrent method?

Aceable’s Parent Taught Drivers Ed program falls under the concurrent method by default, and is the recommended method by the DPS for PTDE students.

It means that you are eligible to get your permit after finishing Level 1. After passing the DPS written test at the end of Level 1, we will email you a DE-964 Certificate to use at the DPS to get your permit. After getting your permit, you will finish the rest of the course and work on your behind-the-wheel hours.

This method is great because you can get your permit without finishing the course. It makes the process for getting a license faster since you can work on the course and your driving hours “concurrently” rather than completing the course first and then your driving hours.

Did you complete the entire 32 hours of coursework first, before going to get your permit? That's called the block method, and is the standard method for the Instructor Taught Drivers Ed course. However, we can still help you get your permit and license using the block method for PTDE, it just means you'll fill out your paperwork to show that you've completed the entire course, rather than the first 6 hours, when you go to get your permit. We know this can be confusing, so send us a detailed email for assistance with this method.
